Let their sibling be the giver of good things
If you have a child with autism and another child too, you’ve probably wished they could just get along.
Our own guide for families says it’s possible. It’s slow, and it’s worth it.
One small thing to try: when your child with autism finishes a task, like washing their hands, you decide the treat is earned. Then, if their brother or sister wants to, let them be the one who hands it over. Over time, they can become the giver of good things.
And give that brother or sister time to just be a kid, with their own friends and their own plans.
